Burgershack's inaugural Saturday opening!

It's been a while since I've posted pics of burgers but I've got a pretty good excuse. I've been more than a little preoccupied with a new and exciting project: Burgershack, a pub kitchen residency at The Royal Oak pub in Marylebone...

Yes, that's right, I've got my very own burger pop-up / kitchen residency in a freshly refurbished boozer in Marylebone called The Royal Oak (formerly The Temperence). Happy days!

Inspired by the memory of childhood burger-eating experiences, and also the rise and rise of the gourmet burger, I approached London butcher (and personal hero) Nathan Mills of The Butchery, to create and supply an ultimate burger: a coarse-ground 6oz patty incorporating a magical blend of cuts from grass-fed, well-aged native breed beef.

It’s around this patty-of-dreams that, working with the rest of the Burgershack team, I've built a mouthwatering menu of awesome burgers and sides. Our Cheeseburger (the two shots above) is a shamelessly fast-food-inspired, nostalgia-inducing affair with tangy homemade pickles, American cheese and onion in a super-light white bun, while the signature Burgershack burger (shown, top) is considerably posher, incorporating Keen's cheddar, crisp pancetta and chipotle burger sauce housed in a glazed brioche bun.

The Chickenshack is a proper southern fried (i.e. rolled in flour and seasoning then shallow fried in pig fat) buttermilk-soaked breast of chicken served with a special Chickenshack mayo, sweet pickled onions, iceberg lettuce and a slice of American cheese in a seeded brioche bun. BOOM!

And our sides include French Fries, House Slaw, Amazeballs (deep fried balls of succulent pulled pork), Deep Fried Pickles and, Chilli Cheese Fries. We're developing burgers and sides to run regular specials to keep things interesting for both diners and kitchen crew alike.

Currently we're serving lunchtimes (12noon-3pm) Monday to Friday and dinner (6pm-9pm) on Tuesday-Friday. BUT, we're about to start opening on Saturday's and to celebrate, we're making a day of it this coming Saturday (27th September). We'll be spinning "music to grill meat to", and offering 20% off all food all day long from 12noon to 10pm. SO COME ALONG - THE MORE THE MERRIER!

Burgershack has been - and still is - an amazing opportunity for me to work with an enthusiastic team of super talented and enthusiastic food fanatics to bring my preferences and knowledge to the table - literally. Big shout to Rob Flowers - who's contributing a whole lotta illustrative magic to Burgershack proceedings - and all at The Royal Oak who continue to make this (my dream) not just a possibility, but a reality.
